Now, Sandeep Joshi, who recently was re-elected as NMC standing panel head, has decided to take up the development and beautification of all civic body-run crematoriums on priority basis along with some other works like construction of 70 public toilets across city.
NMC maintains Sahakar Nagar, Ambazari, Manewada, Mokshadham, Dighori, Shanti Nagar, Gangabai Ghat, Pardi, Barse Nagar, Nara, Nari and Mankapur crematoriums. Except Ambazari and Mokshadham, all other crematoriums are in a bad shape and need immediate repairs of pyre sheds, lighting arrangements, water supply and other basic facilities.
TOI recently had reported how the ghats are ill-maintained and corruption is rampant at these places. Taking cognisance of the report on Thursday, Joshi, along with zonal chairpersons and NMC officials visited Dabha, Gorewada, Friends Colony and Mankapur crematoriums, to take stock of development and beautification work to be carried out in these ghats. After the visit. Joshi said, "Rs 10 crore will be allocated in this year's annual budget for beautification and development of all basic facilities in ghats."
