How to Write a Perfect Resume....

Resume writing is a very important aspect in placements. Thus one needs to improvise on their resume writing to some extent before facing the placements.

What is a Resume?
A resume is a brief document which highlights an individual's ,educational qualifications,experience and skills etc.It is a document which is supposed to reflect a persons knowledge, attitude and his "active" quotient.

What should a resume contain?
The resume should contain the following:

1)Contact details :Your complete contact details including your present address,permanent address,phone number,Email address etc. It is usually placed at the top of the resume.It should occupy the least space possible in order to give space for other sections.

2)Objective : This can either be mentioned at the top,just below the contacts or at the bottom.DO NOT write "I am a hard working, intelligent ...." .The company would have seen thousands of resumes like these .The objective should clearly state why you are the only person eligible for the job.For this section do some research, go to company's website and know about the company before writing this section.Try to analyze what is the package they are looking for and show that that you have it in you.

3)Educational Qualifications: Right from your School till the present level of education include all the major results(eg.10th,12th,CGPA etc)
Try to highlight your strong points i.e lets say you got 80% in your 10th class but you got 98 in mathematics include the mathematics score right below your 10th percentage.

4)Courses Done: This is a very important section where you include the courses you completed or doing presently which are related to the job you're applying for.DO NOT write all the courses you did.If you are applying for a Software job
then enter the software related courses you did.In addition if you are strong in those topics, then also include the marks you got in those courses.It will be a huge boost.

5)Computer knowledge: Since nearly most of the companies require you to work with a computer,it is quite necessary to show them that you have a decent knowledge about them.This section may include the operating systems,languages,programming skills etc.

6)Languages known:This section becomes important only if the job you're applying for includes decent amount of transfers or professional trips to different areas.if you're applying for a foreign job then languages like English ,French, German will help you a lot.Else its not so much important when compared to other sections.

7)Prizes Won: Starting from your childhood any prize you won and for which you have the certificate, memento,or a trophy intact you can enter in this section.Remember that everything that you enter should have a proof to it else you may face problems from your Placement Cell and in worse situation you may be removed from the placement list.

8)Responsibilities Held: This is a section to showcase your leadership qualities.Along with mentioning the responsibilities you have to briefly elaborate on it on what activities you did holding such responsibility.Eg: As an Environment Coordinator of my School ,I was responsible for the plantation of over 100 plants around the school.This shows that if you take up a responsibility you really involve into it with good performance.

9)Projects Done: List all the projects related to the job you are applying for.Elaborate on each,include the skills you used in making the project a success.This would shoe your dedication towards the particular topic.

10)Extra curricular Activities: This would show your personal "activity".An active person with average academic skills is preferred over a dull person with excellent academic record.This section would include your sports activities,writing skills,reading novels,photography etc.



What should be the resume length?

Resume length should be as small and reader-friendly as possible.The company has hundreds of resumes to analyze, if your resume is too lengthy and boring they would just throw it even if your the right person for the job.How you reduce the length is completely in your understanding of the job.Sections that you think are quite related to the job must be elaborate and others can be shortened,clubbed or removed.in whichever case, sections like Contact details,Objective,Educational Qualification cannot be removed.Sections like Prizes won,Responsibilities Held and Extra curricular Activities can be clubbed together into one section.If the job doesn't include working with a compute your computer knowledge is irrelevant.Finally concluding anything under 1page and over 2pages you have difficult chances of qualifying.

Other Useful points:

1)There should be no grammatical or spelling mistakes in your Resume.Write it in a word file so that it will prompt you when you make a mistake.
2)Use standard fonts which are available in all operating systems and be limited with your fonts
(preferably maintain same font throughout the resume, just bold the Subheadings)
3)No use of colors.Resume should be purely in Black letters.
4)Do not make the resume look crowded , give some spaces between categories.
