As schools wear a busy look after the summer vacations, so do private coaching classes all over the city. Most of the parents send
their children to some or the other tuition classes, from as early as nursery classes, as parents have become paranoid about the future of their wards.
A visit to any of the coaching classes, usually conducted by housewives or fresh graduates, reveals tiny tots taking lessons from their miss' or sir'. Private tuition classes show a high number of children studying from nursery to class IV. Educationists say children of this age group should be free of tensions, and enjoy their childhood, but they carry their mammoth school bags from school to tuitions.
Parents, on their part, blame the killing competition at all levels for such a trend. Some parents also say that tuition classes seem to be only way to get children to study, as their children do not listen to them.
Talking to TOI, Jayashri Bahiruwale, mother of class I student Rudresh, said that she had put her son in tuition classes since nursery. "It's a competitive era and I want him to be good at study since childhood," she said.
The parents of nursery-going child Rahul Deshmukh said that she put him in tuition classes because he never listened to them. "It is important that he takes interest in studies. Whenever I tried to teach him at home, he did not listen to me, hence I felt it's best that I send him to a place where he studies."
Deputy director of education Lakshmikant Pande says that parent should not pressurise their children to attend tuition classes from such a tender age as it could create problems in the future.
"Parents are habituated to an outcome-oriented education, but at the tender age of nursery, schools are meant to impart discipline among children, and not make them learn things," he said.
